ses Salines
ses Salines is a municipality in Mallorca’s Migjorn, with an inland village capital and a low, open coast shaped by salt, dunes, farmland and the sea. The village sits on a plateau, while the municipal district extends south towards Colònia de Sant Jordi, a former fishing port that is now the principal coastal settlement. Almond trees, orchards and small rises define the interior; the shore brings sandy beaches, rocky points, salt flats and views towards Cabrera.
Salt has given the municipality its name and remains central to its identity: the s’Avall saltworks by Colònia de Sant Jordi still harvest salt by traditional methods. For visitors, the character changes deliberately between the calm of the village, the working waterfront and beach life at Colònia. Ca’s Perets and the rural Sa Vall area complete a compact municipality with an unusually close connection between agricultural land, coastal habitat and maritime culture.

Staying here
A private-villa stay in ses Salines suits travellers who value space, an unhurried village routine and ready access to the south-east coast. ses Salines village works well for couples, food-minded guests and groups who prefer a local square, independent restaurants and Thursday market to a resort setting. Colònia de Sant Jordi is the more convenient base for families wanting a harbour, town beaches and the Cabrera visitor centre; it also gives walkers a coastal starting point towards the beaches. The coast provides beach days at Es Dolç, es Carbó and the Colònia end of the Es Trenc landscape, while the salt flats and Els Antigors add interest beyond swimming.
Golfers have Vall d’Or Golf in S’Horta as the closest regional course. A car is strongly advisable for rural properties, beach access points and evening plans, although the two main settlements are easy to explore on foot once there. May, June, September and October offer a considered balance for beach walks, dining and outdoor activity; July and August bring the fullest coastal programme but busy beach parking and summer crowds.
Winter is notably quieter, and some beach-facing venues work to seasonal schedules. This is a low-rise, practical part of Mallorca rather than a place for continuous nightlife or broad urban retail.
