Campos: villas and local area guide

Explore Campos villas with our area guide to Sa Ràpita, Es Trenc, the Salobrar salt flats and the town market, with beaches, dunes and coastal restaurants.

Campos brings south Mallorca’s working countryside together with Sa Ràpita’s marina, ses Covetes and the Es Trenc–Salobrar dunes, salt flats and lagoon. A calm base for markets, beach walks and coastal dining.

Campos

Campos is a south-Mallorcan municipality in Migjorn, with a market town inland and a low, open coast facing the bay between Llucmajor and Ses Salines. Agriculture remains part of its identity, visible in the cultivated plain and in the dairy-and-cheese character of Fira de Ses Vaques. The municipality’s everyday centre is Campos town, where Plaça Major, Sant Julià and the twice-weekly market concentrate local life.

Its seaward side changes the pace: Sa Ràpita has a marina and a long sandy shore; ses Covetes sits by the dunes; and the Es Trenc–Salobrar landscape brings beach, salt pans, lagoon and bird habitat together. Banys de la Font Santa, near the southern coast, adds a small but significant heritage stop around its historic cistern. This is a useful base for guests who value a town-and-country rhythm alongside an unbuilt coastal landscape.

Staying here

Campos suits travellers who would rather make their own rhythm than stay in a self-contained resort. In the rural interior, mornings are quiet and the practical core—food shopping, bakeries, health centre and the Thursday/Saturday market—is in Campos town. Sa Ràpita and ses Covetes favour families and sea-focused groups, with sand, a marina and coastal restaurants close at hand.

Couples, walkers and birdwatchers can use the Es Trenc–Salobrar protected landscape for beach walks, dunes, wetlands and salt-flat visits; food-minded guests have market produce and a credible choice of town restaurants. Golfers can consider Son Antem in Llucmajor, while groups will appreciate the contrast between a countryside base and the coast. April to June and September are generally the most balanced periods for a beach-and-outdoors stay; high summer is better for swimming and the Sa Ràpita festival calendar.

A car is strongly advisable, not for road drama but for flexible access between inland Campos, the coast, salt flats, provisions and evening dining. In return, this is not a resort strip: facilities are dispersed, the coast is exposed to wind, and places beyond the main town and Sa Ràpita feel markedly quieter.

Towns, villages and coast

  • Campos — The inland municipal seat is the practical centre for shops, the twice-weekly market, Sant Julià church and a cluster of restaurants. Its fertile plain underpins the municipality’s long agricultural identity.
  • Sa Ràpita — A coastal settlement in Campos, on the bay by the municipal boundary with Llucmajor. It combines Club Nàutic Sa Ràpita, local shops and restaurants, and the Arenal de sa Ràpita beach.
  • ses Covetes — A small Campos hamlet between Es Trenc and the Arenal de sa Ràpita, developed as a summering place in the second half of the nineteenth century. It is the transition between the settlement and dune-backed coast.
  • Es Trenc–Es Salobrar de Campos — Campos contains a protected section of the Es Trenc coast and the wetland/salt-pan landscape of Es Salobrar. The wider beach and natural-park area continues towards Ses Salines, so municipal boundaries matter when describing access and facilities.
  • Banys de la Font Santa — A rural heritage area near the southern coast, centred on Sant Joan de la Font Santa and the Aljub de la Font Santa, a historic rainwater cistern constructed in 1671–1673.
