Consell: villas, village life and wine country

Our Consell guide and villas near Plaça Major, the parish church and Bodega Ribas, with Sunday Mercat dels Encants, vineyards and Raiguer countryside.

An inland village in Mallorca’s Raiguer, Consell lies amid vineyards and almond groves below the Serra de Tramuntana, with a lived-in Plaça Major, the long-established Ribas winery and a Sunday antiques market.

Consell

Consell is a compact inland municipality in Mallorca’s Raiguer comarca, at the foot of the Serra de Tramuntana and close to the wine country around Binissalem. Its focus is the working village of Consell, where Plaça Major brings together the town hall, the parish church and everyday local life. Beyond the streets, an agricultural landscape of vineyards and almond trees gives the municipality its measured, rural character.

Wine is central to the place: the Balearic tourism authority highlights the long-established Ribas winery and its work with older grape varieties. Sunday changes the tempo, when the Mercat dels Encants fills the industrial area with antiques and second-hand finds. The municipal term also includes named rural estate areas such as Masnou, Son Braó, Son Pontiró and es Velar; they are countryside locations rather than additional resort villages. Consell suits travellers who value an inhabited village, local produce and access to central Mallorca without a coastal setting.

Staying here

A private stay in Consell is about space, agricultural surroundings and an easy relationship with a real village rather than a resort programme. Consell village suits couples and food-minded guests who want local restaurants, a bakery, the Thursday market and the Sunday Mercat dels Encants within the municipality. Families and small groups benefit from practical food shopping, primary care and the calm of a settled residential community; Sunday market crowds are the notable exception.

The surrounding vineyard and almond country is particularly rewarding for walkers and cyclists, while golfers can use T Golf Palma as a regional outing. Spring and autumn are the most natural seasons for time outdoors among vines and almond trees; August is the time to stay for the Festes de Sant Bartomeu, and October for the Fira de Tardor. A car is the sensible choice for rural addresses, winery appointments, golf and beach days, although TIB rail serves the wider network.

Consell has no beach, coastline or marina of its own, so sea time is a planned excursion rather than part of daily village life. In winter the village is quieter and some dining choices are limited, while its central roads and Sunday market area can feel busier at peak periods.
