Banyalbufar: villas and local guide
Our Banyalbufar guide and villas cover the terraced Tramuntana coast, Cala Banyalbufar, Port des Canonge, the Son Bunyola estate and Torre des Verger.
Set on Mallorca’s north-western Serra de Tramuntana, Banyalbufar is a terraced coastal municipality of stone lanes, Malvasia culture and small coves, with walks towards Torre des Verger and Planícia.
Banyalbufar
Banyalbufar is a small municipality on Mallorca’s north-western Serra de Tramuntana, where cultivated terraces run towards a rocky Mediterranean shore. Its village is the administrative and everyday centre: stone lanes, small food shops, Malvasia culture and the Plaça de la Vila set the tone. Beyond it, the coast breaks into coves, old boat shelters and walking country.
Port des Canonge is the municipality’s natural port and a small fishing settlement, while the Son Bunyola estate occupies a stretch of rural coast. The municipality’s landscape bears the imprint of an Andalusian irrigation system and later agricultural life, including vines, olives, tomatoes and fishing. It is a place for guests who value a restrained village rhythm, proximity to the sea and direct access to the Tramuntana rather than resort infrastructure.

Staying here
A villa stay here is coastal mountain living rather than a resort break: days can be organised around the village, small coves and walks, with dinner reservations worth making in season. Banyalbufar village suits couples, food-minded travellers and smaller groups who want restaurants, provisions and the weekly markets close at hand. Son Bunyola is suited to couples or groups seeking estate seclusion and access to the western coast; Port des Canonge appeals to swimmers, walkers and families with confident older children, though its coarse sand-and-stone shore has no beach services.
Cala Banyalbufar is also narrow, pebbled and reached by steps, so it is not a conventional family beach. Walkers have the Volta del General connection and local routes around the Torre des Verger and Planícia. Golfers can use Golf Son Termes in Bunyola, but this is not a golf-resort base.
A car is strongly advisable for the dispersed coast and trailheads; TIB buses serve the village. Choose April–June or September–October for an active stay, and expect more seasonal dining from March to November, higher summer use of the coves, winding approach roads, and a quieter feel in winter.

Highlights
The places we would not miss, from landmarks and beaches to walks and viewpoints.

- Torre des Verger (Viewpoint) — This 16th-century coastal watchtower, known locally as sa Torreta, stands on a rocky outcrop above the Mediterranean and is listed as an Asset of Cultural Interest.
- Vila de Baix cultural walk (Activity) — A low-difficulty village walk links Sa Baronia, the historic lower quarter and the coastal hydraulic mills of La Cala.
- Planícia and the old estates (Nature) — Routes through the Planícia area reveal former mountain estates, olive-oil and wine-making heritage, springs and the foothills of Mola de Planícia.
- Sa Pera de s’Ase (Nature) — A short descent from the Torre des Verger area reaches this old harbour, where fishermen’s huts, beached boats and dry docks remain on the rocky coast.
