Pollença: villas and area guide

Explore Pollença with our area guide and villas: Plaça Major, Port de Pollença, Cala Sant Vicenç and Formentor, from old town streets to sheltered bay.

Pollença brings together a historic inland town, the promenade and beach of Port de Pollença, the coves of Cala Sant Vicenç and the headlands of Formentor. A villa base lets you combine town life, coast and mountain landscape.

Pollença

Pollença is Mallorca’s northern municipality, where a historic inland town opens towards the Bay of Pollença and the last foothills of the Serra de Tramuntana. The municipality brings together Pollença town, Port de Pollença, Cala Sant Vicenç and the Formentor peninsula, with rural Vall d’en March behind the town. In Pollença town, narrow streets meet Plaça Major, the parish church and the Calvari stairway; the Dominican convent contains the Pollença Museum.

Port de Pollença is the municipality’s second town, shaped by its promenade, fishing dock, beach and yacht club. To the north and west, the terrain becomes more rugged: Cala Sant Vicenç is formed by a group of small coves, while Formentor continues through pine and holm-oak woodland, headlands, viewpoints and more isolated beaches. It is a municipality in which town life, coast and mountain landscape remain closely connected.

Staying here

A private-villa base in Pollença gives guests access to several distinct settings rather than a single resort. Pollença town is the natural choice for food-minded travellers, market browsing and evenings around Plaça Major; its historic core and cultural sites reward time on foot. Port de Pollença works particularly well for families and mixed-age groups wanting a long beach-and-promenade setting, food shops, the old dock and a marina.

Cala Sant Vicenç is more compact and coastal, suited to couples and confident swimmers who value its small coves; note that the final approach to Cala Barques includes steps that are not adapted for disabled access. Golfers have the 9-hole Golf Pollença, while walkers and cyclists seeking seclusion will value Vall d’en March and the Tramuntana foothills. April to June and September to October are the most practical months for combining outdoor exploration with the golf course’s published April–October season; August brings the major Patrona celebrations.

A car is strongly recommended for country addresses, Vall d’en March and Formentor, although Pollença town and much of Port de Pollença are walkable. The principal trade-off is access: the road to Formentor is subject to traffic regulation, so check the current Consell information before heading to the peninsula.

Towns, villages and coast

  • Pollença — The inland principal town has Plaça Major, the parish church, the Convent de Sant Domingo, the Calvari and a dense historic street pattern. It is the municipal centre for the Sunday market, culture and everyday services.
  • Port de Pollença — The municipality’s second town runs around the Bay of Pollença, with a long beach, linked promenades, an old fishermen’s dock and the Reial Club Nàutic. It is the most service-rich coastal base.
  • Cala Sant Vicenç — A small coastal settlement composed around four coves, including Cala Barques, Cala Clara, Cala Molins and Cala Carbó. It has a more intimate, cliff-backed coastal character than the port.
  • Formentor — The northeastern peninsula is formed by the final foothills of the Serra de Tramuntana and contains Formentor Beach, the Cap, the lighthouse, coves and the Mirador del Colomer. Road access is regulated at times.
  • Vall d’en March — A rural valley of country plots and mountain views behind Pollença, rather than a compact village. It suits guests prioritising quiet, walking and a landscape-led setting.

  • Port de Pollença boardwalk and old dock (Marina) — The seafront joins long beaches and promenades with the fishermen’s dock, La Llonja and the Reial Club Nàutic; traditional llaüts remain part of the harbour scene.
  • Cala Barques, Cala Sant Vicenç (Beach) — Cala Barques is one of Cala Sant Vicenç’s four beaches, separated from Cala Clara by Punta dels Ferrers; the final approach is on foot down steps.
  • Formentor Beach (Beach) — Also known as Cala Pi de la Posada, this long, narrow beach has fine pale sand and is backed by dense pine and holm-oak woodland.

  • Pollença Sunday Market (Market) — The weekly market brings about 300 food, craft, clothing and plant stalls to Plaça Major, Via Pollentia, Ca les Monnares and adjacent streets.
