Llucmajor: villas and local guide

Explore Llucmajor with our villas and area guide, from Cala Pi and s’Arenal to Capocorb Vell, Plaça d’Espanya and the Bay of Palma.

Stay among vineyards, a working market town and limestone coves. Llucmajor brings rural lanes, Cala Pi’s sheltered sands, s’Arenal’s seafront and paths towards the Santuari de Gràcia.

Llucmajor

Llucmajor is a broad municipality in Mallorca’s south, combining an inland market town, cultivated countryside, a long residential coastline and the beach resort of s’Arenal. The principal town centres on Plaça d’Espanya, where regular produce markets and the autumn Fires maintain a strong local rhythm. Beyond it, lanes cross agricultural land towards Cala Pi, a narrow sandy cove set below steep limestone walls, and Capocorb Vell, a substantial Talayotic archaeological site.

The coastal settlements from Cala Blava to Badia Gran face the Bay of Palma, while s’Arenal brings a working sailing club and a more animated seafront. On the inland edge, paths from Llucmajor rise towards the Santuari de Gràcia on Puig de Randa. The mountain’s summit and Santuari de Cura are in neighbouring Algaida, rather than in Llucmajor municipality. This is a varied southern base: rural in its interior, but with beaches, heritage and practical town life within the same municipal area.

Staying here

A stay in Llucmajor suits travellers who value space, countryside and a choice of quite different days. Inland addresses around Llucmajor town and the roads towards Cala Pi work well for groups, food-minded guests and cyclists: the town has regular markets, while country lanes and the route towards Capocorb Vell give the area a more rural register. Cala Pi is the natural choice for families and couples who want a sheltered sandy cove; the official tourism authority notes its shallow entry, while the steps down and cliffs make it less effortless for anyone with limited mobility.

The residential coast around Puig de Ros and Maioris suits golfers, with Golf Maioris in the municipality; Mhares adds a cliffside restaurant and beach-club option. Walkers can follow the signed ascent from Llucmajor towards Santuari de Gràcia, and serious dining is available at Andreu Genestra. Spring and autumn are particularly good for walking and cycling, while summer favours the coast and water.

A car is advisable for a villa stay, especially in the rural interior and around Cala Pi: buses link the town, s’Arenal and sections of the coast, but the Cala Pi service is seasonal. The trade-off is straightforward: the quieter country and cove locations have fewer everyday services than Llucmajor town or s’Arenal, so plan provisions and restaurant bookings.

Towns, villages and coast

  • Llucmajor — The municipal town is the administrative and market centre, with Plaça d’Espanya, the town hall and the principal weekly markets. Its autumn Fires are a defining part of the annual calendar.

  • s’Arenal (Llucmajor part) — s’Arenal is divided across municipal boundaries; its Llucmajor section contains Club Nàutic S’Arenal and municipal markets and services. It is the liveliest, most urbanised part of the municipality.
  • Cala Blava and Puig de Ros — These adjoining residential coastal areas sit above the Bay of Palma. Cala Blava is reached by the coast bus corridor, while Puig de Ros is home to Mhares Sea Club.
  • Maioris Décima — A residential coastal area with a Wednesday morning produce market, a pharmacy and Golf Maioris nearby, making it a practical base for the western side of the municipality.
  • s’Estanyol de Migjorn — A small coastal settlement with a seasonal Saturday market from July to September, listed by the Ajuntament among the municipality’s market locations.
