Things to Do in Mallorca: Villa Guest Experiences
Plan things to do in Mallorca with verified ideas for mountain walks, culture, wine, caves, golf, cycling, markets and a day on the water.
By Martina Giuliani · · Experiences
A practical guide to things to do in Mallorca from the villa areas: the Tramuntana, Sóller train, Palma culture, wine country, caves, golf, cycling and markets.
What are the most worthwhile things to do in Mallorca from a villa?
The most worthwhile things to do in Mallorca depend on the villa area: use the Serra de Tramuntana for walking, cycling and the Sóller railway; Palma for the Cathedral and art; the centre and east for wine and caves; and the north for golf and a Sunday market. A day charter is a separate, sea-based option.
Plan one substantial outing per day rather than trying to cross the island repeatedly. Book timed cultural tickets, the caves and golf before committing to a day. For the mountains, take water, robust footwear and the current route information. The villa areas of Sóller, Valldemossa/Deià, Pollença, Palma, Alaró, Felanitx and Cala d'Or each make a different part of this list particularly convenient.
Explore the Serra de Tramuntana and the GR 221
The Serra de Tramuntana is a UNESCO World Heritage cultural landscape on Mallorca's north-west coast, shaped by terraces, water-management systems and dry-stone construction. It is worth seeing on foot because the landscape itself explains how farming communities worked with steep slopes and limited water.
For a structured walking day, use the Consell de Mallorca's Ruta de Pedra en Sec GR 221. The authority describes 261.1 signposted kilometres in total, including a 150.1-kilometre main route between Port d'Andratx and Port de Pollença. Do not treat that figure as a single day walk. Select one published stage or short section, check the current map and weather, and note the Consell's warning that sections still in project are not signposted.
The nearest villa bases are Andratx for the southern end, Valldemossa/Deià and Sóller for the central mountains, and Pollença for the northern end. An Alaró finca is also a sensible base for inland approaches. Can Miquelet, in Valldemossa/Deià, sleeps eight in four bedrooms and has a five-night minimum stay; it suits guests who want mountain days close to home.
For cycling, Mallorca's official visitor information sets out a Cycling Route Plan that classifies roads and paths by safety and traffic level. Its 16 recommended routes total 1,732 kilometres and link villages, lighthouses, hermitages and the Tramuntana. Choose a distance and elevation appropriate to the group, then arrange bicycles and any guiding separately. Sóller, Pollença and Alaró are practical villa areas for a ride-led day.
Take the historic railway to Sóller and Port de Sóller
The Sóller railway is an easy full-day experience that links Palma, Sóller and, by tram, Port de Sóller. It is worth doing for the journey through the Tramuntana as much as for the destination; the operator describes the wooden train and historic tram as part of the experience.
The official timetable checked on 9 October 2026 lists Palma departures from 10:10 to 19:40 and scheduled return trains from Sóller between 09:00 and 19:30, with starred services to be confirmed at the box office. At that date, Palma–Sóller tickets were €23 one way or €30 return. The combined Palma–Port de Sóller train-and-tram route was €40. Timetables, fares and exceptional services can change, so check the operator's page before purchasing for a 2027 stay.
A Sóller villa stay is the natural pairing, while Valldemossa/Deià guests can make the journey from the village and Palma guests can start at the city station. Son Salas is in Sóller, sleeps 18 in ten bedrooms and has a seven-night minimum stay. Build in time for the tram rather than assuming the train ticket covers every onward journey.
How should villa guests plan Palma Cathedral and museums?
Palma is the right day for architecture and art, with Mallorca Cathedral, its Museum of Sacred Art and Fundació Miró Mallorca providing a clear cultural itinerary. Start with a timed Cathedral visit, then choose one museum rather than compressing several collections into a single afternoon.
The Cathedral's official ticket combines the Cathedral and Museum of Sacred Art. On the visitor page checked on 9 October 2026, an adult ticket was €10; the stated April–November visitor hours were Monday to Friday 10:00–17:15 and Saturday 10:00–14:15, with Sundays closed. The Cathedral's terrace visit is a separate seasonal product, open from April to November, and has route and health restrictions. Buy the ticket from the Cathedral's official channel and recheck hours around religious services and public holidays.
Fundació Miró Mallorca is in Cala Major and brings together the artist's Sert Studio, Son Boter, the Moneo building and a sculpture garden. Its general admission was €10 when checked, and its winter timetable listed Tuesday to Saturday 10:00–18:00, Sunday 10:00–15:00 and Monday closed. Ticket sales stop 45 minutes before closing. The Foundation offers guided visits, including private options, which should be arranged directly.
For contemporary art closer to the centre, Es Baluard Museu sits on Palma's old Renaissance wall overlooking the bay. Its official page listed general admission at €8, Tuesday–Saturday hours of 10:00–20:00 and Sunday hours of 10:00–15:00; the ticket desk closes 30 minutes before the museum. It is a useful alternative to Fundació Miró, or a separate stop for guests with more time. Check the museum's current exhibition programme and hours before visiting.
Palma, Son Vida, Portals and the south-west are the nearest villa areas for this day. Villa Arcoíris is in Palma, sleeps 14 in 12 bedrooms and has a five-night minimum stay. Pair the city with an early return to the villa rather than leaving museum entry until late afternoon.
Taste Mallorca through its two wine regions
Mallorca's two Denominación de Origen wine regions offer an informed way to explore the island's interior and east: DO Binissalem and DO Pla i Llevant. A winery visit is worthwhile because it connects local varieties, villages and the agricultural landscape; it is not a substitute for confirming a tasting directly with the producer.
DO Binissalem covers Santa Maria del Camí, Consell, Binissalem, Santa Eugènia and Sencelles. Its regulatory council highlights local grape varieties including Manto Negro, Callet, Moll, Gargollassa and Giró Ros. The area works well from Consell, Alaró, Inca and Palma. Finca Es Rafal, in Alaró, sleeps eight in five bedrooms and has a seven-night minimum stay, making it a useful rural base for a central-island day.
DO Pla i Llevant is in central and eastern Mallorca. Its 2026 regulatory-council account identifies 19 municipalities and notes native varieties such as Callet, Mantonegro, Fogoneu, Gorgollassa, Premsal Blanc and Giró Ros. Felanitx and Cala d'Or are the closest Azul Stays areas for this region. C’an Torrent is in Cala d'Or, sleeps 12 in six bedrooms and has a five-night minimum stay.
Ask the individual bodega about opening days, language, group size, transport and whether a tasting needs advance payment. Designate a driver or arrange transport. For a deeper itinerary, see our Mallorca wine guide.
Choose caves, golf or a cycling day in the east and north
For a planned indoor-outdoor mix, visit the Cuevas del Drach at Porto Cristo, play at Club de Golf Alcanada, or build a cycling day from an official route. These are three distinct things to do in Mallorca, so choose according to the group's energy level and location rather than combining all three.
The Cuevas del Drach are a timed cave visit in Porto Cristo. The operator states that the tour lasts around an hour and that all tours have a live concert plus the option to cross Lake Martel by boat or on foot. The adult online price checked on 9 October 2026 was €18.50, versus €19.50 at the ticket office; online tickets can be bought up to 30 days ahead. From 16 March to 31 October, scheduled entry times were 10:00, 11:00, 12:00, 14:00, 15:00, 16:00 and 17:00. The closest villa areas are Felanitx, Cala d'Or and Capdepera.
Club de Golf Alcanada, at Port d'Alcúdia, is a north-coast choice for players who want an 18-hole round. The club publishes bookable green fees by date. For 2026, its adult 18-hole rates ran from €115 to €230 depending on the period; players without a Spanish Golf Federation licence were required to buy the club's €3 daily golf licence. Check the current rate and licence rule when booking. Pollença, Alcúdia and Capdepera are the most useful villa areas for this plan.
Cyclists can use the official route-plan classifications as a starting point, then select a route that matches the group and conditions. Pollença and Sóller suit mountain-oriented riding; Alaró is useful for inland access. A car and a secure bicycle carrier may be more practical than riding from a villa to the route start.
Make time for a market and a separate day on the water
A market gives a short, local morning outing, while a boat day changes the perspective of the coast. These two experiences are easy to add to a villa week because neither requires a multi-day itinerary, but both benefit from confirming the current plan before you go.
Pollença's official visitor site confirms a market every Sunday from 08:00 to 13:30 in the town centre, around Via Pollentia, Plaça Major and Ca les Monnares Square. It lists food, crafts, shoes, clothing and plants among the 300 stalls. Arrive early, use the town centre rather than expecting door-to-door access, and keep the visit to the morning. Pollença and Alcúdia are the nearest villa areas; Almond Valley in Pollença sleeps 16 in eight bedrooms and has a seven-night minimum stay.
For a day at sea, Bluebnc Yachting is Azul Stays' sister company and offers crewed yacht charters and day trips from Palma and around the Balearics. A yacht charter is booked separately from the villa. Share dates, group size and preferred departure area when requesting a proposal, then confirm the yacht, route, timing, crew, price and charter terms for that booking. Palma, Portals, Andratx and the south-west are convenient land bases for a Palma-area departure. Read our Mallorca yacht charter guide before choosing the day.
Match the Mallorca villa area to the experiences you value
Choosing the right base makes the experience list simpler. Sóller and Valldemossa/Deià favour the Tramuntana and railway; Pollença and Alcúdia suit the north, golf and Sunday market; Palma and the south-west suit culture and a Palma departure; and Felanitx or Cala d'Or suit eastern wine country and the caves.
| Villa area | Strongest experience fit | Practical first booking |
|---|---|---|
| Sóller or Valldemossa/Deià | Tramuntana walks and the railway | Check the GR 221 map or train timetable |
| Pollença or Alcúdia | Market, golf and cycling | Reserve golf or hold Sunday morning free |
| Palma and south-west | Cathedral, Miró and a boat day | Buy cultural tickets or request a charter proposal |
| Felanitx or Cala d'Or | Pla i Llevant wine and Drach Caves | Confirm tasting or choose a cave entry time |

Frequently asked questions
- What should I book before arriving in Mallorca?
Villa guests should book timed experiences first: the Cuevas del Drach, Palma Cathedral tickets, golf and a yacht charter request. The current Sóller railway timetable and winery visits should also be checked before travel. Mountain walks normally need route planning rather than a ticket, but hikers should consult the Consell de Mallorca map and current conditions before setting out.
- Is the GR 221 suitable for a day walk?
The GR 221 can be suitable for a day walk when villa guests choose one published stage or a shorter section rather than attempting the whole route. The Consell de Mallorca describes a 150.1-kilometre main route between Port d'Andratx and Port de Pollença. Some sections remain in project and are not signposted, so the current official map is essential.
- How much is the Sóller railway from Palma?
When checked on 9 October 2026, the official Sóller railway listed Palma–Sóller at €23 one way and €30 return. The combined Palma–Port de Sóller train-and-tram route was €40. The railway operator can change timetables, fares and special services, so villa guests should confirm the current official page before buying tickets for a 2027 holiday.
- Which Mallorca villa areas are closest to wine country?
Consell, Alaró, Inca and Palma make practical bases for DO Binissalem, whose territory includes Binissalem, Consell, Santa Maria del Camí, Santa Eugènia and Sencelles. Felanitx and Cala d'Or are the most useful Azul Stays areas for DO Pla i Llevant in central and eastern Mallorca. Individual wineries set their own visit format and reservation conditions.
- Can a Bluebnc yacht charter be added to an Azul Stays villa holiday?
Yes. Bluebnc Yachting is Azul Stays' sister company and offers crewed charter yachts and day trips from Palma and around the Balearics. A yacht charter is booked separately from a villa stay. Guests should share their dates, group size and preferred departure area, then confirm the particular yacht, price, route, timing and charter terms before booking.
- What is the easiest market to visit from a north Mallorca villa?
Pollença Market is an easy choice from Pollença and Alcúdia villa areas. Pollença's official visitor information lists the market every Sunday from 08:00 to 13:30 in the town centre, around Via Pollentia, Plaça Major and Ca les Monnares Square. Villa guests should arrive in the morning and allow extra time for town-centre access and parking.
